Real Evidence Characters of Drowsy Driving for Freeway Traffic Crashes

ABSTRACT

With being widespread and fatal, the drowsy driving crashes become the focal point of our society. But the government is fail to solve problems, due to individual behavior pattern is difficult to measure, the causal factors are ambiguous, and the traffic accidents database does not sound. Instead of stressing the causes of fatigue, this research focuses on driver’s manipulation capacity being reflected by his physiological state, and the evidence of the traffic crash. Summarized out the evidence characters of drowsy driving crashes on freeway are following : the evidence of “rear-end collision" or " low angle side collision (or drove off the road) without turning on the direction lamp", and “same height" on the damage parts of each vehicles, or other evidence shows the one who did “not brake" and “not avoid". The result provides the rule for processing traffic accidents and discriminating the causal factors. The four supplementary situations enhance confidence in challenging discrimination. The research found the official statistics was underestimated the frequency of the drowsy driving crashes, and recommends the authorities should be strengthened to prevent the accidents.
